| The project at Building 200, Naval Air Station Oceana, consisted of a comprehensive roof replacement and lightning protection system upgrade to deliver a complete, watertight, and fully functional system. Work included the demolition and removal of the existing modified bitumen roofing system down to the structural concrete deck, and installation of a new SBS-modified bitumen roofing assembly with associated components such as vapor barrier, wood blocking, insulation, coverboard, flashings, roof edges, gutters, and downspouts. Additionally, the scope required removal and replacement of roof-mounted elements including expansion joints, ladders, and metal accessories, along with installation of a new Class I lightning protection system with UL certification.
Throughout the project, careful coordination was required to maintain continuous building operations, as the facility remained occupied during construction. This included phased demolition and installation to ensure the building remained protected from weather exposure, as well as coordination of temporary disconnections and reconnections of mechanical, electrical, and rooftop equipment. Strict adherence to safety, environmental, and operational requirements was maintained, including foreign object debris (FOD) control, hazardous material handling, and compliance with EM-385 and OSHA standards. All work was performed in strict accordance with NAVFAC specifications, approved project drawings, and all applicable codes and standards to deliver a high-quality, fully warrantable installation. The completed system consists of a fully integrated roofing and lightning protection assembly designed for long-term performance and reliability. Warranty coverage includes a 10-year maintenance agreement in addition to a 20-year No Dollar Limit (NDL) manufacturer’s watertight warranty, ensuring durability and continued system integrity. |
